The Harps Gaels are trough to the Minor Championship County Final after a thrilling contest with Rathdowney-Errill in the semi-final this Friday evening at Abbeyleix GAA grounds. With only a point to spare, the final scoreline read The Harps Gaels 1-14 V 1-13 Rathdowney-Errill.
After a laclustre start whereby the Harps Gaels were down by 3 points, a bit of luck came the Harps way when they got a goal from a deflection. The Harps Gaels pretty much kept ahead from there on and indeed added further points to go in 5 points ahead at half time.
In the second half the Harps Gaels seemed comfortable holding that lead. Then with about ten minutes to go, Rathdowney-Errill got bit of a good run and started to chip on the points. Indeed, it was down to two points at one stage but The Harps Gaels kept their resolve and crept back to 4 points ahead with less than a minute to go.
Rathdowney-Errill came storming back with a well taken goal with 40 seconds left on the clock. A frantic half minute was played whereby the Harps Gaels hung on to qualify for the final where they will play Borris-Kilcotton – date and time to be confirmed.
