The Harps Junior hurlers finished off their league campaign with a hard earned win over Trumera to keep their Division 2 status for 2017. Played in Trumera on Sunday morning is wet conditions, this was a strong showing from an under strength Harps side who showed great will to win on the day. The Harps were the dominant side early on with good early scores from Ross Young and Brian Clancy giving them the lead. Twice in the opening half, however, The Harps were dealt a blow as in the slippery conditions Trumera managed to bundle the ball over the line for fortuitous goals. The Harps response was encouraging though, as Niall Brophy and Ross Young fired over points from play to leave The Harps behind by the minimum at half time on a score line of Trumera 2-4 The Harps 0-9.
Again The Harps started strongly as Conor Deegan converted a free from the left wing. Moments later great work by Albert Townsend and Niall Brophy put the Trumera keeper in trouble and when he spilled the ball, Ross Young was there to flick the ball to the back of the net. This gave The Harps a three point lead and while the sides traded scores for the remainder of the half, Trumera could not manage to pull The Harps back. With just injury time remaining, Trumera threw everything at The Harps in search of an equaliser, but The Harps defence were up to the challenge and the final whistle sounded to delight for our junior hurlers.
